Since the launch of the Apple Vision Pro on February 2, there have been comments from users, many superbly positive, one or two leaning to the negative. Now, Apple has released the next software update for Vision Pro to developers and it seems to fix two of the biggest pain points.
The Reset Problem
First of all, what happens if you forget your password and need to reset the device?Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported on Monday that if you forget the passcode, it can be a hassle.
Gurman said, “The company is telling users who forget their code—typically a series of digits—that they’ll have to bring the device to a store or mail it to AppleCare customer support if they want to get it working again. Apple will then erase and reset it.” Well, that’s a bore, and entering the passcode wrongly too many times disables the headset, adding to the inconvenience.
A solution is coming, and maybe in the meantime you should, you know, note the passcode down and put it somewhere safe, like a password manager app such as the brilliant 1Password.
Gurman says it looks like Apple was caught off guard by the responses it’s had. So, here’s the fix.
In the visionOS 1.1 developer beta, there’s evidence, according to 9to5Mac, that Apple is adding a new option which means that you will be able to reset the Vision Pro, wiping it clear of data so you can set it up afresh. There’s a new alert, it seems that reads, “This Apple Vision Pro is in security lockout. You can wait and try your passcode again, or you can erase and reset this Apple Vision Pro now.”
More Convincing Faces
The second item on the agenda is one of the most controversial: Personas. As you’ll know, this is the name for how your face appears in a video call when you’re on Vision Pro as otherwise you’d show up as someone in a headset.
With the new update, users are asked to capture their likeness for the Persona. The new version will look more detailed and lifelike, according to MacRumors. That’s good because the initial Personas were commented on as looking creepy or over-simplified.
Personas are a long way from being so real that anyone could think they are the real you, but that’s maybe not the purpose. As placeholders go, they’re the best you can see, and improvements will help further with that.
