The first trailer for Arcane’s second season has finally dropped. It comes on a day filled with lots and lots of video game and TV news, from Dragon Age to Severance, and I’m having a bit of a hard time keeping up.

You’re here for the trailer, so let’s get right to it. Behold:

This looks like a pretty epic showdown between sisters Vi and Jinx. (Hailee Steinfeld who voices Vi will also be voicing the animated Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider: The Legend Of Lara Croft coming to Netflix in October).

Previously, when discussing Season 2 of Arcane, Jinx voice actor, Ella Purnell (Fallout, Yellowjackets) said “nobody will feel good” after watching its ending, which I thought sounded rather ominous.

Well, today we’ve also learned that Season 2 will be the final season of Arcane, which is sad but also leaves me feeling confident in the show’s ending.

Co-creator Christian Linke posted a video on Twitter in which he basically says the show always had a predetermined ending that they were working toward, and they wrapped it up when they reached that point. I think that’s far preferable to either A) having your show canceled before you can actually finish the story or B) dragging out a show long past its expiration date or C) Game Of Thrones.

Linke also notes that the ending of Arcane is not the end entirely. Other characters and stories from the League of Legends universe need to be told, so hopefully we’ll get equally compelling series down the road.

Arcane is just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey and partnership with the wonderful animation studio that is Fortiche,” Linke said. “From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind, which means the story of Arcane wraps up with this second season. But Arcane is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.”

Arcane is one of the best animated TV shows I’ve ever seen, and certainly one of the best video game adaptations out there. It returns to Netflix in November for its final season. The series is created by Linke and Alex Yee.
