One of the hottest items on TikTok is hot in all the wrong kinds of ways.

Bissell has recalled some 3.2 million of its handheld Steam Shot cleaners after receiving more than 150 reports of burn injuries. A notice from the Consumer Product Safety Commission warns the recalled devices “can expel hot water or steam onto users while heating or during use, posing a burn hazard.”

The company is offering customers the choice of either a $60 credit or a $40 refund. Affected owners should visit the company’s recall website to register for the recall and learn which steps to take.

The recall of the Steam Shot comes as the device has been increasingly popular on TikTok and other social media channels, leading the #CleanTok hashtag.

The steamer is sold at a number of department stores, including Target and Walmart, as well as online retailers like Amazon. The recall is for cleaners in the 39N7 and 2994 series. “Steam Shot” or “Power Steamer” is printed on the side. Colors include green, pink, blue, orange, white, black, purple and red.

Bissell says it has received 183 reports of hot water or steam escaping from the product, including 157 reports of minor burn injuries.

On TikTok alone, there have been nearly 700 posts focusing on the Steam Shot, with many users calling a tool they cannot live without, showing it remove stains from furniture, windows, appliances and clothes.
