The first over-the-ear headphones from the CMF — the sub-brand of Carl Pei’s Nothing — have been announced. Powered by 40mm custom drivers and certified for Hi-Res audio thanks to support for LDAC codec, the Headphone Pro come with intuitive controls, Hybrid Adaptive ANC and up to 100 hours of battery life.

The new headphones have a modular design and are available in three colors: light grey, dark grey and light green. The ear cushions can be removed and swapped for another color to inject a personal look. The sound of the headphones can also be customized.

Active Noise Cancelation

The noise cancelation technology used in the CMF Headphone Pro involves a combination of a comfortable acoustic seal and a powerful ANC algorithm. The Hybrid ANC function can reduce unwanted sounds by up to 40dB using adaptive noise cancellation that detects the level of ambient noise and then adjusts the amount of noise cancelation required.

The CMF Headphone Pro offer high-fidelity sound and support for the LDAC Hi-Res audio codec with wireless transmission speeds up to 990 kbps. The headphones’ 40mm drivers have nickel-plated diaphragms, a16.5mm copper voice coil, precision bass duct and dual-chamber design for a full-on sound with rich texture and plenty of punch.

Modular Design

An element of personalization is possible with the CMF Headphone Pro because they have interchangeable ear cushions for a unique look. The ear cushions will initially be available in orange and light green colorways and will be priced at £19 / $25 / €25 per pair.

Physical controls include an Energy Slider that lets the user shape the sound in real time by adjusting between bass and treble levels that match the mood of the song. A roller dial controls volume levels, playback and noise control with a combination of scrolls and presses. There is also a special customizable button that can be set up to access features like Spatial Audio or Voice Assistant.

Spatial Audio

Spatial Audio is a form of digital signal processing that can makes movies and music sound “more real” by surrounding the listener. The Headphone Pro include a Cinema Mode that widens the soundstage for clear dialog and effects, meanwhile Concert Mode adds depth and energy of a live performance.

Everyone hears music differently because they prefer different tones and hearing changes as we age. Also, ear canals are all shaped differently and that can affect hearing sensitivities and the perception of sound.

The CMF Headphone Pro use Audiodo technology so the user can create a Personal Sound profile that’s unique to them. This profile will adjust the sound to take account of different hearing levels in each ear and the kind of frequencies the user can hear.

A full charge of the on-board battery can deliver up to 100 hours of playback and up to 50 hours of talking time. Even with the ANC function turned on the playback time is 50 hours, which is enough for a long-lasting performance without interruptions.

A quick five-minute charge of the headphones can yield up to four hours of playing time, while a full recharge takes a couple of hours using the USB-C cable. Users can also top up the headphones’ battery directly from their smartphone using a USB-C cable.
