A new set of patch notes for Dota 2 dropped overnight, with the 7.40c update arriving to tweak the balance of the game and make quite a surprising addition to the competitive scene.
The 7.40c patch notes kick off with some small item changes, with Khanda now being disassembleable and Phylactery getting some small stat nerfs. But once we hit the changes to heroes that is where things get interesting, with some of the strongest and most annoying heroes getting some changes.
Perhaps the most notable nerf is Broodmother, who gets a lot of number changes to bring down her power level. The number of charges for her webs has been reduced by one at all levels, and Incapacitating Bite can no longer be applied by illusions. Abbadon has also received a similar illusion based nerf to his Curse of Avernus which should also tone him down a bit as well.
Elsewhere Timbersaw is another loser from the patch, with some seemingly significant stat nerfs, while Spectre, who has been very annoying to play against in recent weeks, also gets some smaller but hopefully still significant stat changes.
There are a couple of buffs hidden in the patch notes, with Batrider getting stat gains, Grimstroke getting some significant early game buffs including a reworked cast range on Ink Swell that increases its range massively at level one and Nature’s Prophet getting increased treant damage.
The other major talking point of the patch is Largo, the newest Dota 2 hero who was released at the end of 2025. Despite only being in the game for a matter of weeks, Largo has now been added to Captains Mode meaning he can now be picked in professional matches. It is quite rare to see a hero be added to the pro scene so quickly, with previous heroes taking months to make it there. However, after being pretty well received by a lot of players it is not entirely a surprise to see him added. With multiple qualifiers on going and some major tournaments just a few weeks away we should get the first look at Largo in pro Dota matches very soon.

While getting a new patch is always welcome, Dota 2 fans are still hoping for some kind of major event to arrive in the coming weeks. Despite the new hero launch and the Monster Hunter event, many fans are hoping for another major event such as Crownfall to arrive sometime soon.
