Google Photos is testing a new feature that will make it quicker and easier to ensure photos look their best every time you share them with your contacts.

As revealed in a report from Android Authority, the Google Photos sharing menu is expected to receive a new one-tap “Enhance Photo” option that lets you quickly sort out any quality issues with your pictures before sending them to your contacts. If you’ve ever edited a photo in Google Photos, you’re probably already familiar with the current Enhance option, which often appears as a suggested edit. The new Enhance Photo option performs the same function, except you can now use it directly whenever you share an image without delving into the editing controls.

The new feature isn’t currently available to users, but well-known leaker Assemble Debug found the option hidden within the latest version (6.93) of the Google Photos Android app and managed to enable it, as demonstrated in the video clip below:

Why Is The New Enhance Photo Option Needed?

Many photos could benefit from a few brightness, contrast and color adjustments, but when you want to share a picture quickly, there’s often no time to jump into the edit menu to start making adjustments.

However, the new “Enhance Photo” button will appear at your fingertips right when you need it. It also provides a visual preview, allowing you to quickly decide whether or not you prefer Google’s automatic improvements over the original, unedited image.

Just One Picture At A Time

Note that if you’ve previously edited a photo with the existing Enhance feature via the regular edit controls, the option won’t reappear when you share it. Furthermore, according to the report, the Enhance Photo option only works when sharing a single image. You can’t select multiple images, enhance them and share them in one go.

Google rolled out an early version of its one-tap photo enhancement feature, then called “auto enhance,” in 2016, while a similar feature aimed at video was discovered in May of this year. As always with leaked features, there’s no guarantee that the new “Enhance Photo” will appear on the sharing menu precisely as described. However, as it seems to be just a new link to an existing feature, I expect Google to introduce it soon.
