Gray Zone Warfare has taken the top spot on the Steam Charts less than 24 hours after launching into Early Access.

After releasing to the public for the first time yesterday, Gray Zone Warfare now sits at the number one spot on the Steam top sellers chart, beating out fellow early access hit Manor Lords which previously held the top spot. It’s even proving more popular than the Steam Deck, which often sits at the top of the charts given its popularity.

Gray Zone Warfare’s surprise launch seems to have done it the world of good, given that many fans of Escape From Tarkov were looking for a new and similar game to play after the outrage of the past week that saw a lot of players quit Tarkov. While Gray Zone has a lot of differences from Tarkov, it does scratch the same itch as a realistic extraction-based shooter and the Tarkov community has taken to it in massive numbers.

But the success has led to some issues with server capacity and bugs. These appear to have been fixed within a few hours of them showing up, and personally, I have had no server issues since the first few hours after launch.

However, this has led to some backlash from players who were not able to get into the game due to server queue times, or players who have found the fairly reasonable system requirements too high for their PC. Many of these players have taken to the Steam reviews to voice their displeasure, leading to a mixed status of reviews for Gray Zone Warfare.

There have been some more serious bugs, such as some players not having heads or clothes, losing items in their stash and being unable to accept quests, but already there has been one hot fix that aims to solve some of these issues. If you are experiencing similar issues, some players have reported that verifying the game files on Steam has solved the issue.

But providing your PC is strong enough to run the game you will likely have a great time in Gray Zone Warfare, especially as a lot of improvements have been made since the first streamer-only test last week. However, when you first jump into the game there are a lot of things that are not explained, so you may want to read up on some tips and tricks, or how to complete the starting quests.
