It is rare I find a show to watch with my entire family at once, but Only Murders in the Building appeals to anyone and everyone. Now, it’s returned for its fourth season today, August 27 and has done so to great critical acclaim, as per usual.
With 25 reviews in, Only Murders in the Building season 4 has a close-to-perfect 96% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics. That is actually tied for the “worst” score across four seasons now, which should show you how beloved it is. Compare past seasons:
- Only Murders in the Building season 1 – 100% critics, 93% audience
- Only Murders in the Building season 2 – 98% critics, 90% audience
- Only Murders in the Building season 3 – 96% critics, 86% audience
- Only Murders in the Building season 4 – 96% critics, N/A audience
In other words, it looks to be as good as ever, though of course that score can still go up or down as more reviews come in. Here is how the fourth season is described by Hulu:
“In season four of “Only Murders in the Building,” Charles, Oliver & Mabel wrestle with the shocking events at the end of season three surrounding Charles’ stunt double & friend Sazz Pataki. Questioning whether Sazz or Charles was the intended victim, our trio’s investigation leads them all the way to Los Angeles where a Hollywood studio is readying a film about the Only Murders podcast. As our amateur sleuths race back to New York, they embark on an even more epic journey — traversing their building’s courtyard to delve into the twisted lives of the Arconia’s West Tower residents.”
The show keeps getting more and more popular and as such, attracting more and more big name stars to join its central trio of Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez. Meryl Streep (you don’t get bigger than her) is back for season 4, but the cast is also expanding with, Molly Shannon, Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy, Zack Galifianakis, Richard Kind, Melissa McCarthy and Kumail Nanjiani. I don’t know how they’re all going to fit. Longoria, Levy and Galifianakis are playing movie versions of Gomez, Martin and Short respectively for a film being made about the podcast, so that should be pretty funny.
The season is out…now, so go see for yourself whether or not it lives up to the hype or the quality of the last three installments. And there will no doubt be many more to come after this.
