Jaime Munguia is back with a vengeance. Four months removed from the only loss of his professional career against Canelo Alvarez, Munguia returned to the ring to score a dramatic 10th-round KO win over Erik Bazinyan on Friday night at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

Munguia looked just as rugged as usual and unleashed bombs to put Bazinyan away in the 10th frame. Before the knockout blow landed, Munguia’s assault on Bazinyan’s body was a major factor.

He broke Bazinyan down before landing a telling blow that sent Munguia’s game opponent into the ropes, where he would go shortly after the onslaught.

Here is a look at Munguia’s KO win.

What’s Next for Jaime Munguia?

Munguia should have some impressive options. While he lost to Canelo, most would tell you he made a good account of himself in that fight. With this exciting win over Bazinyan, Munguia now has some momentum.

Following the fight, Munguia talked about potentially facing other former Canelo opponents like Caleb Plant and Edgar Berlanga. Both men faced and lost to Canelo, like Munguia.

There would be some decent interest in a Berlanga-Munguia fight and perhaps even in a matchup with Plant.

You have to wonder if Munguia would ever consider fighting David Benavidez. The latter unsuccessfully chased a fight with Canelo for more than a year.

If Munguia were to pursue that fight and win, it would do a great deal for his brand while helping to solidify further his place in the hearts of diehard Mexican boxing fans.

Bazinyan has nothing to hang his head about. He forced Munguia to work for the KO and he had his moments with a top-notch fighter.

In any case, Munguia’s win pushed his record to 44-1 with 35 KOs, while Bazinyan dropped to 32-1-1 with 23 KOs.
