Riot Games has released the 2025.S1.1 patch notes for League of Legends, ushering in a new season that adds a new look to the Rift, a new epic monster in the form of Atakhan and a lot more goodies and changes that should keep you entertained for the next few months.

As with any first patch of the year, this is a pretty big one that is kicking off a new season in League of Legends, however, it has a bit of a different look. Not only does the patch come with a new naming system, which is a little annoying, but it is also the first of three season launches we will see this year. That means instead of this being the biggest patch of the year, we’ll be getting three slightly smaller patches over the year that deliver a lot of big changes in each.

When it comes to these patch notes, however, there are still some pretty big changes coming to LoL. The most noticeable is a new look to the Rift, which is getting a Noxian makeover for the start of 2025. There’s a ton of visual changes to the most iconic map in LoL, as well as some gameplay related ones such as new targeting animations for the new Noxian War Turrets which do look pretty cool.

The other major change you’ll see on the Rift is the addition of Atakhan, a new epic monster who will appear at the 20 minute mark either in the top or bottom of the river. His spawn depends on which side of the map has seen more champion damage and kills before the 14 minute mark, with Atakhan’s pit spawning at that time to show where he will appear.

The version of Atakhan that spawns also depends on how much action there has been, with lower action games spawning Voracious Atakhan who will give your team a one time death mitigation buff that auto respawns you at the base when you die, if he is taken down. Higher action games spawn Ruinous Atakhan, who will give your team a buff that increases effects from all epic monster rewards, as well as some Blood Roses.

Blood Roses are another new addition, and a new plant you’ll find on the Rift. They grant XP and a permanent stacking Adaptive Force buff, so are certainly worth picking up if you see them around the Rift.

The patch notes for League of Legends patch 2025.S1.1 are pretty big, so you’ll want to read all of them to get a full idea of what is going on. But other highlights include respawning Nexus turrets, which I am a big fan of, some reworks to early objectives and the bounties they pay out and some big changes to the lane minions. There’s also a big change coming to Teleport, one of the most important spells in LoL, that sounds hilarious and a ton of champion balance changes.

There is no doubt that this patch is going to be a game changer for League of Legends, and it seems like a good way to kick off the year. However, it remains to be seen if this new style of patch and having multiple seasons a year will work out as Riot is hoping. Either way, it’s an exciting time to be a LoL player.
