While I didn’t mind Falcon and the Winter Soldier as an actual show, how it moved the MCU story forward felt impossibly minor. The premise of the show was Sam Wilson grappling with the weight of getting Captain America’s shield from Steve, and then by the end…deciding to do it.

It felt like the entire series could have been skipped outside of one specific thing, Sam getting his suit in the end, a Marvel tradition at this point. But now even that may get brushed aside.

A newly leaked image of what is supposedly Sam’s suit in Captain America: Brave New World has leaked, and it’s not the one that he got in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. It’s blue, it’s more armor-like than loose-fitting like his other one, and it seems to be more like Steve’s original set of suits.

The Sam Wilson era of Captain America has felt a bit strange given that the character has been missing in action since 2021 when in theory, he should be a leader of the Avengers now. He didn’t even have an episode appearance in What If…? season 2 (though he will in season 3, whenever that arrives).

Captain America: Brave New World is supposed to be released in February of 2025, though no guarantees it gets pushed back again, as been happening frequently with Marvel’s slate. In December 2023, it was announced that writer Matthew Orton has been brought on board for new scenes for the movie shooting in 2024. This is not unusual for a Marvel movie, as essentially all of them have reshoots at this point. The film will bring back Betty Ross actress Liv Tyler, along with Harrison Ford arriving to play her infamous father. Tim Blake Nelson is supposed to be playing The Leader.

This all will be taking place in a world where Skrulls have been revealed as being major world leaders and being hunted down, as per the events of Secret Invasion. But given that The Marvels, which even starred Nick Fury, ignored that completely, it remains to be seen if that will even come up at all. That would appear to be sort of important, given the political bent of Brave New World and Wilson’s Captain America’s role in it. But who knows. Consistency has not exactly been the MCU’s strong suit as of late.

And speaking of suits, we’ll see how exactly he gets this blue one, or if the movie will even bother explaining it at all, or will be content to mostly ignore Falcon and the Winter Soldier as the MCU has done for a good long while now.
