All of the important dates have been revealed and confirmed. Madden 27 drops worldwide on August 13 and early access begins on August 6. There’s even a closed beta coming next week that will give fans a taste and developers valuable data as to how the upcoming iteration will perform at scale. There’s plenty to know and here’s all the information – including what to watch for on June 4, when both College Football and Madden 27 are revealed in detail.

Who Is The Madden 27 Cover Athlete?

The worst-kept secret in the Madden universe was confirmed on Wednesday, June 3 when Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams was confirmed as the cover athlete for both the Standard and Deluxe Edition. Williams is the first Bears player to ever grace the cover of Madden. As a lifelong Bears fan, this is special to me, and no, I don’t believe in stupid curses.

Williams’ Standard Edition cover captures his signature jump pass — a shot he told the New Heights podcast was inspired by old Michael Jordan Nike ads. The Deluxe Edition leans into his “Iceman” celebration and the custom nail art that has become part of his off-field identity.

He starts Madden 27 at a 90 overall rating with a stated goal of pushing to 99 by year’s end, which tracks with a 2025 season that saw him throw for 3,942 yards and 27 touchdowns while leading Chicago to its first NFC North title since 2018 and its first playoff win since 2010.

When Does Madden 27 Release?

The game officially drops on August 13 and it will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. EA Play members will also get a 10-hour Early Access trial. The closed beta will likely run from June 11-14.

EA Play Pro subscribers go a step further, getting the full Pro Edition starting August 10 — three days ahead of the worldwide launch. That layered access window mirrors the structure EA used for EA UFC 6 and is becoming the company’s standard cadence for its big sports releases.

The closed beta window is reportedly tied to EA’s playtesting program and is the earliest opportunity to get hands-on with Madden 27 before launch.

What Are The Madden 27 Pre-Order Editions?

There will be two editions, the Standard and Deluxe Editions and both available for pre-order. The Deluxe Edition will include 4,600 Madden points, a Season 1 player item, early access solo challenges, a Caleb Williams MUT card item, 500 Franchise points, one Superstar Legendary XP Boost and one Ultimate Team Evo item.

Beyond the editions, the leaked Xbox listing points to a new 12-month EA SPORTS MVP+ membership that bundles Madden 27 with College Football 27 — and that’s where the seven-day early access and 12 monthly MUT packs at the start of every month, plus four Superstar Skill points, would live. That membership effectively stacks the Deluxe-style perks across both football titles with ongoing Ultimate Team drops.

The official SKU names, pricing and MVP+ details should get clarified at Thursday’s Opening Drive show.

When Is The Madden 27 Reveal Event?

The next big time to circle is June 4 at 8 p.m. ET. That’s when EA will reveal the details for Madden 27 and College Football 27. A lot has leaked about both games, but the hope is that much more will be revealed on this presentation.

The full gameplay trailer, Franchise mode changes, Superstar updates and the Ultimate Team roadmap should all hit during the show. For a wider EA Sports cover-athlete moment that landed earlier this year, the Alex Pereira EA UFC 6 reveal cycle is a useful comparison point on how EA stages these rollouts.

The live stream airs on the official EA Madden NFL YouTube channel.
