The old “scroll through 80 movies before settling on one” challenge of Netflix may have at least a temporary answer, based on a new original film the service has released. After scoring a big win with Rebel Ridge (I also certainly recommend that), a new movie is out with almost perfect critic scores, His Three Daughters.

The film currently has a deeply impressive 97% from 114 critics on Rotten Tomatoes, where it’s sort of insane to maintain that percentage with so many reviews in. It also boasts an 88% audience score, which is certainly solid.

The cast is stellar. The Three Daughters in question are Natasha Lyonne of Poker Face and Orange is the New Black, Carrie Coon of The Leftovers and The Gilded Age, and Scarlet Witch herself, Elizabeth Olsen, who many fans are hoping may show up at the end of Disney’s Agatha All Along. But first, something much more prestigious. Here’s the official synopsis of the film:

“From writer-director Azazel Jacobs (French Exit, The Lovers) comes this bittersweet and often funny story of an elderly patriarch and the three grown daughters who come to be with him in his final days. Katie (Carrie Coon) is a controlling Brooklyn mother dealing with a wayward teenage daughter; free-spirited Christina (Elizabeth Olsen) is a different kind of mom, separated from her offspring for the first time; and Rachel (Natasha Lyonne) is a sports-betting stoner who has never left her father’s apartment — much to the chagrin of her stepsisters, who share a different mother and worldview. Continuing his astute exploration of family dynamics in close-knit spaces, Jacobs follows the siblings over the course of three volatile days, as death looms, grievances erupt, and love seeps through the cracks of a fractured home.”

Again, stellar scores here, though so far that has not made it exactly race up Netflix’s Top 10 most-watched movies list. It has climbed to #4 after debuting lower, but right now has The Garfield Movie, Uglies and Rebel Ridge ahead of it. But if enough positive word of mouth spreads than who knows, maybe it could be on top despite not being an action film or about a large CGI cat.

It’s always a sight to see when Netflix produces a stellar original movie, and this year has actually gone quite well now between His Three Daughters, Rebel Ridge and Hit Man before that, all 95%+ scoring films. I’m certainly going to check Daughters out shortly, with those scores and that cast.
