Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 will launch into a market with more folding phones than ever before. But now we know Samsung is preparing to update the look of its flagship foldable to challenge the competition.

Long-time smartphone watcher Ice Universe has details on the new design for the Galaxy Z Fold 6. They have shown off Samsung’s new choices for the rear camera housing. The individual lenses now come with raised black metal mountings with circular detailing.

Samsung’s choice to redesign the rear camera assembly now is a curious one. With the rise in foldable devices from multiple manufacturers, the folding form factor is moving away from its previous niche and into the mainstream market. Technological prowess is no longer enough; design and fashion are coming into play.

Samsung has kept the Galaxy Z Fold’s design the same over the last three years. Clearly, now is the time to re-energise it with a new look.

Whether this includes changes to the camera hardware remains to be seen. There are conflicting reports on Samsung upgrading the hardware to be closer to that used on 2024’s Galaxy S24 Ultra, while others suggest that the hardware will remain consistent with this year’s Galaxy S24 and S24+, and last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Samsung is expected to hold a Galaxy Unpacked launch event in early July in Paris ahead of the Summer Olympics.
