GTA 6 is trending once again as we enter 2025, the year it’s supposedly going to release, according to Rockstar.
Now, a leak from inside a Rockstar studio purports to show a new screen from the game alongside a PS5 devkit. We don’t know when the photo is from, but those devkits were issued in 2019-2020, and of course the game has been in development for at least that long. Here’s the shot:
Reportedly this does seem to be legitimate, and in any case, even one tweet about it has 4.5 million views, to say nothing of hundreds of others. The good news for Rockstar, with a tight grip on GTA 6 info, is that it shows…effectively nothing.
The shot is of Lucia in third person standing in some sort of parking lot, it seems. There’s a concrete wall, some palm trees, what appears to be storage containers and warehouses. If this is a fake leak it’s the most boring fake leak we’ve ever seen. It doesn’t even have a UI. We have seen plenty of much less believable fake leaks in the past (I made this one to prove a point some time ago):
Now that we’re in 2025, fans are expecting promotion for GTA 6 to start ramping up past the trailer that debuted exactly a year ago in December of 2023. If you’re looking for a date on the second trailer, Trailer 2 for GTA 5 debuted in November of 2012. GTA 5 debuted in September of 2013, ten months later. So, if we’re hitting that fall 2025 date, it seems that we should get a second trailer extremely soon.
It has always seemed somewhat improbable that what will no doubt be the biggest game of all time, GTA 6, would announce a release date and hit it without any delays, but that is what Rockstar maintains and has told investors to expect. Though if it slipped to early 2026, that would still be inside the same financial year so long as it hit in the first quarter.
The thing is…nothing really matters when it comes to GTA 6. Not a release date, not when trailers come out or when marketing starts. The game could drop randomly on a Monday in 2027 and it would sell $2 billion worth of copies in 24 hours, and I think Rockstar knows that. Still, I’m sure they would rather release things officially than have more and more trickle out from leaks. But this one? Nothing really to see here.
