After an incredibly impressive two week run on the top of Netflix’s Top 10 list, Nobody Wants This has been dethroned by a new show. Well, an ongoing show at the very least, season 7 of Love is Blind, Netflix’s most popular reality series with its latest batch of episodes taking the total to 9. The episode 10 finale will air on October 16.
As for Nobody Wants This, it has been one of the most pleasant surprises of the year, and something I would definitely put in my personal 2024 top 10 list. The series has a stellar 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and a solid 88% audience score, and it stars ‘00s favorites Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, along with Veep’s Timothy Simmons and Succession’s Justine Lupe.
Nobody Wants This has not been picked up for season 2 yet, and given this performance and the fact that it’s not a miniseries, it’s essentially a guarantee this will happen, and I assume that things are just being worked out behind the scenes before something is officially announced. Even for popular shows, we don’t often hear about renewals this early. I’m not going to rule out the idea that it may even return to #1 for a while after Love is Blind watchers move on after this latest collection of new episodes.
Another fixture on the list remains Monsters: The Lyle and Eric Menendez Story, the Ryan Murphy production and less-popular-but-still-popular anthology follow-up to Dahmer. The showrunner will take on Ed Gein next, and Murphy cannot get through any season of this without some sort of controversy. For Dahmer it was about the victims, now it’s about the killers, who are trying to be released from prison after 30 years and have the support of their family. All of them hate the show, and Ryan Murphy has been taunting them, even as the series’ actors have come out in support of them as well.
There are some new additions to the list, Deceitful Love and Starting 5, two Netflix original series. The Perfect Couple is hanging on to the edge of the list at #10. That miniseries was supposedly going to stop being a miniseries and return for a second season, which still seems likely, though it hasn’t happened yet.
As for Nobody Wants This, I cannot recommend this show enough to couples, families, really anyone. It’s a stellar, exceptionally funny, touching romantic series with two leads exploding with charisma. I hope it returns to #1 soon here.
