Here we go, diving headlong into the work week. We’re one third of the way through September. In three weeks, October will be here and then it’s just three months until the end of 2024, and then it’s just three more quarter-centuries before the year 2100 and the 22nd century, though I’ll be long gone by then, and good riddance. On my tombstone write, “So long and thanks for all the fish!” But in the meantime, whilst we still draw breath and the climate gods have not yet smitten us, let’s play some games. Let’s solve this Strands grid!

Strands is the newest game in the New York Times’ stable of puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Every day we’re given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. Let’s solve today’s, shall we?

Today’s Strands Breakdown

I need to point out something: Today, one of the regular blue words was also a spangram. QUICKSTEP crosses from one side of the grid to the other. I found this a bit confusing, since I thought only spangrams were allowed to do that. The actual spangram, BALLROOMDANCE, makes more sense, and I love how they encircled WALTZ with it. Very clever. Overall, a pretty fun but also fairly straightforward Strands.
