The Colossi of The First Descendant are probably the most interesting fights in the game, given that they do not revolve around shooting three immunity balls over enemies’ heads like 95% of the other ones. But they can also be the most frustrating with unexplained mechanics or tactics a lot of the time.
One “wall” that players can run into the Dead Bride, the level 41 Colossus that can still pose problems even if you are max level 40 yourself. But after running into issues for a number of fights, I beat her, and I have some advice to share. First and foremost, the biggest trick to this fight is:
Solo. Her.
I cannot stress this enough and it’s going to be key to the whole fight. Yes, a very effective team can obviously beat her, but “random matchmaking” and “very effective team” rarely go together. The reason you want to solo her is because her health scaling goes way, way down, making her massive shield much less of a problem. I still died in a few attempts, but ultimately I beat her on I think my third run. Other advice:
- Fire – She is a Chill Colossus so fire is very much her weakness. This is obviously going to be very helpful if you’re Lepic, the fire guy, but if you’re say, Viessa, that’s a problem as you just cannot use your skills at all. I beat on her Freyna, but she’s also somewhat resistant against poison. So, the main thing you can do is to use Fire mods on your weapons which will add fire damage which will be very helpful. My main weapon I used here was a Beam Rifle paired with a sniper for big weak shot damage. I had Thunder Cage but I did not use it much.
- Chill Resist – This is a basic mod you should throw on your Descendant and level it up a few times. I had 600 chill resistance and the fight recommends 1,600 but I didn’t want to spend that many materials and it ended up being fine. I mean, stuff hurt, but I survived.
- Missile Attack – This is a bad one. It blows through cover and you just want to dodge until it’s done.
- Icicle Attack – This one hurts if caught, but I found you can side strafe while firing and doing damage relatively easily. A good opportunity for hits.
- Kingfishers – Clear these mobs out frequently as not only with they overwhelm you if not, they also drop all the health and ammo and MP you’ll need.
- Ultimate Attack – When she goes immune, she will make a giant cold AOE that you must escape ASAP. This is especially where cold resist comes in. This is easiest on Bunny with your speed move, but you can grapple hook out with all classes only taking a bit of damage. You can stop this phase by shooting weak point cylinders on her freeze arm, but I never actually got her out of it, and just waited.
Just know that her shield is the vast majority of her health, and her actual health bar will go quickly once you break through, so don’t quit if you think you’re way behind on damage.
She’s tough! But yeah, definitely doable solo as your teammates will just make this worse. Good luck!
