When Is the Marvel’s Wolverine Release Date?
The release date for Marvel’s Wolverine is interesting. While it won’t be a summer release, the September 15 date that was confirmed at Sony’s State of Play puts it a full two months ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6.
Insomniac and Sony locked the date at the June 2 State of Play, with the game arriving as a PlayStation 5 exclusive and no PC version on the table. It joins a deep slate of console-only releases like SAROS, reinforcing Sony’s push to keep its single-player tentpoles on PS5.
How Can You Pre-Order Marvel’s Wolverine?
Pre-orders are officially live for the game and that’s true for several retailers. Based on the game’s strong initial showing and the popularity of the character, I’d be surprised if the pre-order numbers aren’t strong.
Pre-orders cover a Standard Edition at $69.99 and a Digital Deluxe at $79.99, with the Standard sold on disc or digitally and the Deluxe digital-only. Every pre-order unlocks the Classic Brown suit, Reflective Claws, a Technique Point and four avatars, while the Deluxe adds five suits, five claw variants and three more Technique Points. None of it includes early-access days, so the upgrade is cosmetics plus a small progression head start.
What Is the Marvel’s Wolverine Gameplay Like?
The gameplay is more gory than you’d expect from a Marvel title, but that’s a good thing, if you ask me. Wolverine is a gritty character whose fighting style is anything but neat and pretty.
The combat is claw-centric and graphic, mixing finishers and limb damage with stealth takedowns and vertical traversal before Logan drops into the fray. Insomniac has framed the structure closer to God of War than the open-world Spider-Man games, and the studio confirmed PlayStation 5 Pro enhancements along with a gore toggle for players who want the violence dialed back.
What Is the Marvel’s Wolverine Story About?
The story carries deep ties to Marvel characters and there’s seemingly a consistent presence from several X-Men or Team X pals.
The June 2 reveal showed Logan hunting the Morlocks after they’re captured by the Reavers, a cybernetic mercenary group working for villain Bolivar Trask, with Jean Grey alongside him in the mutant task force Team X. It’s an original story that still unfolds in the same Earth-1048 continuity as Insomniac’s Spider-Man titles, set across locations that include Madripoor, Canada and Tokyo.
