News that Euphoria season 3 has been delayed until sometime later in 2025 mean that it will likely be three and a half years since season 2 when it arrives. If it arrives. While HBO maintains that despite this, season 3 is still happening, at this point, maybe it shouldn’t be.

A new report from Variety goes through proposed ideas for season 3, which will include a multi-year time jump to get the kids out of high school and probably into their ‘20s, as the actors playing the “kids” are all 26-27 in real life at this point.

Reportedly Zendaya herself had a lot of input as to where the show would go, which had to do an overhaul for season 3 after the tragic death of Angus Cloud, who was heavily featured in the first concept for the season.

This resulted in some very strange ideas like Sam Levinson saying that Rue would be more of a background character working as a Veronica Mars-esque private detective. HBO rejected that. Zendaya then said Rue could get sober and then become a pregnancy surrogate. HBO rejected that too. I can see why none of these were approved.

At some point with Levinson’s script delays, the idea was proposed to move on without him, but as controversial as Levinson is supposed to be, the biggest actors, Zendaya, Jacob Elordi and Sydney Sweeney said they wouldn’t do it without them.

The Daily Beast has a separate report out that one of the actors on the show (speaking anonymously) says that they just don’t think season 3 will end up happening at all in the end. The delay news means that all actors are released from their contracts and are able to continue taking new work rather than sitting and waiting around for Euphoria to finally spool up, a show they are paid far less for than their other, high-profile movies that the big stars have been in recently. In short, they don’t really need the show anymore, even if it’s how a few of them got their start.

Despite all this, the general vibe is that there’s no ill-will toward Levinson, at least on the cast side, who still seems very supportive of him despite the delays and previous seemingly-not-true reports about set toxicity. But it may just not come together in the end if these delays persist and what may be just six more episodes after a 3.5 year wait. It had a good run, and it seems like it’s probably just time to move on if it’s taking this long and these are the kinds of ideas being pitched for a third season.
