In a new teaser trailer, Science Saru will be producing a new Ghost in the Shell anime series that could be more faithful to the original manga.

The new trailer (shown below) makes a point of showing panels from the original manga by Masamune Shirow, which makes me think that this new series may be more faithful to the style and tone of the manga.

The various adaptations we’ve had over the years, from the movies to the various anime series have always tended to deviate from the host work quite a bit. With the movies lacking the Fuchikomas from the manga, and the series calling them Tachikomas instead.

The art style was also cleaned up as well, so it’s interesting that for this trailer we are getting a more authentic portrayal of the manga upfront.

The main key visual (shown above) also features a proper Fuchikoma from the manga, so that alone gives me hope that this could be a more faithful adaptation.

Whether the final series will retain this art style and approach is anyone’s guess, but Science Saru has a habit of being very faithful to the host works they adapt.

Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken is a good example of this, as the anime series was surprisingly close to the original manga by Sumito Owara.

Admittedly, we did get some very nice animation for the old Ghost in the Shell PlayStation game that was much closer to the manga. So it would be great if we could have something like that for a whole series.

Apart from the news that the anime will be released sometime in 2026, we don’t know much else other than Science Saru is behind the production and Production I.G is on the production committee.

Anyway, after the appalling live-action Ghost in the Shell movie, I am glad we are getting more anime and something that looks faithful to the host work. If you are at all curious about the original manga, you can check out my reviews here and here.
