The remake of the classic NES game, Shadow of the Ninja, now has a new demo available before its release at the end of this month.

The original Shadow of the Ninja is somewhat of a classic in ninja gaming circles and this new Reborn remake continues to live up to that high standard.

Developed by the pixel masters at Tengo Project, I am also happy to report that it plays wonderfully too.

At the time of writing the demo for Shadow of the Ninja Reborn is available on Xbox Series X|S, with Switch, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 demos on the way soon.

You get a decent chunk of the game in the demo, and you can play as either Hayate or Kaede.

Following Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors, Tengo Project have clearly got their teeth into this new game. In that, Shadow of the Ninja Reborn is more of a classic console game, whereas Ninja Saviors was originally an arcade game.

That means the level design and pacing is more involved here, and the platforming as well as exploration are much more intricate. It really shows off what Tengo Project can do and it’s arguably one of the nicest looking pixel art games in recent years.

It also has a great musical score by Iku Mizutani and Hiroyuki Iwatsuki, with Mizutani returning after his work on the NES original.

Talking of the NES original, if you are subscribed to Switch Online you can play it via the NES app and get some additional practice in before Shadow of the Ninja Reborn is released at the end of this month.

Shadow of the Ninja Reborn is released for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and PC on August 29.
