The much loved and classic anime Space Adventure Cobra is getting what looks like a new Metroidvania type game next year.

Starting back in 1978 as a manga by Buichi Terasawa, Cobra was a fascinating mix of science fiction, spaghetti Westerns and irreverent action adventure.

It found a very large audience pretty quickly and birthed a great anime movie and TV series, which is now widely available on Blu-ray.

The anime and manga also found an audience in France, which is likely why Microids is publishing this new Metroidvania game developed by Magic Pockets.

The game itself actually makes sense in the context of Cobra, as this approach would be a very eloquent way of tackling a lot of different abilities that Cobra possesses.

The iconic Psychogun is very much present and correct. With the teaser trailer (shown below) revealing it to be some kind of special move.

Following the release of the Grendizer game, I am hopeful that Microids have got a decent feel for 70s and 80s anime properties and that this will likely turn out alright.

Space Adventure Cobra: The Awakening will be released next year for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and PC.

You can also watch the original Space Adventure Cobra anime over at Crunchyroll.
