Season two of The Finals has finally been revealed after weeks of teasing, and the first big update for the game is set to include a brand new 5v5 game mode and a new map.

The Finals season two will launch on March 14 and include a lot of new content, with the headline addition being the new Power Shift game mode that sees two teams of five battle it out. The new mode will see each team try to control and push a platform through the map, similar to the Payload modes seen in Overwatch. The platform will apparently tear through anything in its path, so with the destruction of The Finals it could make for some incredibly cinematic moments. Interestingly players will also be able to switch contestants every respawn, meaning if the gear you selected at the start of the match isn’t working out you can change it on the fly.

The story for the introduction of season two is that hackers known as CNS have taken over The Finals and started making their own changes. The biggest is the introduction of their own map, known as SYS$HORIZON, which is a glitchy, neon-filled cityscape that exists in the loading realm of the game show.

It features voxel bridges going between buildings and random floating geometry that is glitched out of place. This should provide some unique opportunities for parkour, and provide a fresh look to the map pool.

The hackers have also brought with them some new specializations and gadgets for all three classes, although it’s the mediums who are getting the most love with two new additions.

The Dematerializer is a specialization for Mediums that temporarily erases physical surfaces, like walls, ceilings, or goo — allowing contestants to see, shoot, and pass through them.

The Anti-Gravity Cube is a gadget for Heavys that deploys a cube that manipulates gravity in its immediate area, lifting contestants and objects upwards.

The Gateway is a gadget for Lights that features a pair of limited-range deployable portals. When both are thrown and activated, contestants and objects can move between the two locations. Anyone can use a portal, but you can’t see or shoot through them.

Finally, the Data Reshaper for Mediums is a gadget that changes enemy fortifications (or any random objects for that matter) into something else entirely — like turning an enemy mine into a chair. Or an enemy turret into a table.

Elsewhere in season two of The Finals, there are improvements to the league system that will provide you with more rewards for climbing up the leaderboards, and private matches are being added in a beta format, which could kickstart esports competitions.
