In case you missed Thursday’s NYT Mini, you can find the answers here:

Wondering what country is Senegal’s neighbor to the east? Not sure who the star of The Bear is? Don’t worry, because I’m here to help you with the answers for today’s NYT Mini crossword.

The NYT Mini is a quick and dirty version of the newspaper’s larger and long-running crossword. Most days, there are between three and five clues in each direction on a five by five grid, but the puzzles are sometimes larger, especially on Saturdays.

Unlike its larger sibling, the NYT Mini crossword is free to play on the New York Times website or NYT Games app. However, you’ll need an NYT Games subscription to access previous puzzles in the archives.

To help you avoid getting stuck and having to reveal missing letters, here are the NYT Mini Crossword answers for Friday, August 16 (spoilers lie ahead, of course):

NYT Mini Crossword Clues And Answers

7 Across: Make a getaway – ESCAPE

8 Across: What’s longer in the morning and evening than it is at noon – SHADOW

9 Across: Voices below altos – TENORS

10 Across: No longer in the Drafts folder – SENT

Down

1 Down: Interlocks (with) – MESHES

2 Down: Esoteric – ARCANE

3 Down: Give false hope to – LEAD ON

4 Down: Ship into the country – IMPORT

5 Down: “Surely you ___!” – JEST

6 Down: Coniferous trees with red berries – YEWS

It took me 2:53 to complete today’s NYT Mini.

Another tough one, but it was also a larger grid than usual for a Friday. I got JEREMY (since I just finished the latest so-so season of The Bear this week) and SHADOW on my first stab at the Down clues. JEST and YEWS on the Down clues helped me figure out ESCAPE on the Across side.

That made MESHES and IMPORT clear. Back to the Across clues and TENORS and SENT were then clear. Those helped me finally figure out ARCANE and LEAD ON to complete the grid.

That’s the end of my current stint with this NYT Mini guide. If you need some help with Saturday’s NYT Mini, make sure to check out Paul’s blog. Meanwhile, if you play other NYT games such as Wordle, Connections and Strands, be sure to check out Forbes Games for our guides to each daily puzzle.
