Looking for Sunday’s Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here:

A new day. A new week. A new month. If this were January instead of July we could add a new year to this list of budding newness. Thank goodness it’s not, though. I’m still very happy that it’s summertime. Winter can wait its turn.

And yes, Ned Stark, for goodness sakes we know winter is coming! In fact, we have House of the Dragon airing tonight to remind us just how bleak things can get in times of civil war. And here we are in an election year; perhaps the most depressing election year I can remember. Octogenarians in abundance, but very little common sense.

As promised, I went to Horizon: An American Saga, Kevin Costner’s new epic Western film and really enjoyed it. You can read my review here if you’re interested. I think some mistakes were made in how the film was structured, but I’m glad I saw it in theaters.

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

I guessed BLADE because I was just talking about one of my favorite fictional characters, Logen Ninefingers from Joe Abercrombie’s First Law series. The first book is The Blade Itself and it’s just absolutely fantastic. Fantasy fans and fans of really great storytelling should read it ASAP. This is one of the books I include in my Best Fantasy Series list.

Okay, enough rambling! BLADE was a great guess, giving me two green boxes, one yellow box and leaving me with just three words to choose from. Initially, I only came up with two: DRAPE and DRAKE and since a DRAKE is a type of dragon, I obviously chose that one. Alas, it was not the correct answer. I found that soon enough: ADAGE for the win. Huzzah!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “adage” comes from the Latin word “adagium,” which means “saying” or “proverb.” The Latin “adagium” itself is likely derived from the verb “aio,” which means “I say.” This root reflects the oral tradition of passing down wisdom and commonly held truths through concise, memorable sayings. Over time, “adagium” entered Old French as “adage” and eventually made its way into Middle English, maintaining its meaning as a traditional saying or proverb.
