Saturn’s Day is upon us and with it a brand new weekend to bask in the sun, frolic in the fields and Netflix and chill (see my weekend streaming guide here). It’s been a lovely week so far, in what I can only describe as a lovely month, and I’m hoping that can be stretched into a good rest of 2024. Then again, hope is the enemy of contentedness. As with all things, expectations are better under-promised and over-delivered rather than the other way around.
For now, let’s keep expectations in check and solve this Wordle!

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.
I began today with SPARE—a guess rather similar to many of Wordle Bot’s favorites—and it did quite well, leaving me with 2 green boxes and, I would later discover, just 15 remaining possible solutions. From here, I tried to come up with a word that used as many new letters as possible and finally came up with MONTH after trying to make something with ‘C’ and/or ‘W’ work unsuccessfully. This ended up being a stroke of good luck—or dashing skill—and I was left with just one possible solution: STORM for the win! Huzzah!
Competitive Wordle Score
I tied the Bot which means 0 points for the tie and 0 for guessing in four. You can’t multiply 0 by 2 for 2XP Friday so I just get 0 points. A total wash. Oh well!
How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
- If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
- Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
- You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word “storm” originates from Old English storm, derived from Proto-Germanic sturmaz, and ultimately from Proto-Indo-European stur- meaning “to churn” or “move violently.” It has kept its meaning of a violent weather disturbance across related languages.
