The first weekend of November is over and I am sick. Not sick as a dog, but very congested with a bit of a cough. This makes breathing—especially at night—a little tricky. Fortunately, I don’t have a fever or sore throat. It’s a tolerable cold. Something to comment on but not to complain about.
It did, potentially, have an impact on my Wordle-solving today, however, as I didn’t do particularly well! Let’s get on with it!

I didn’t do so hot, as you can see, in today’s guessing game. CAPER left me with a few hundred options and HOIST slashed that to 29, which is still far too many. I was trying something off the beaten path with FUNGI, but in retrospect it wasn’t the best guess, either. WINDY left me with just one, on guess #5: VINYL for the win! At last!

Just like yesterday, I get -1 for guessing in five and -1 for losing to the Bot, who took four tries today. -2 hurts!
How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
- If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
- Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
- You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word vinyl comes from the Latin root vinum, meaning “wine.” This root is related to the substance ethylene, a compound found in plants that was initially discovered through its relation to alcohol (which is derived from wine). The chemical compound vinyl was first developed in the 19th century, and its name was derived from vinum due to its similar molecular structure. Vinyl chloride, the chemical used to make polyvinyl chloride (PVC), later became the basis for vinyl records and other products.
