We’re ten days into the final month of the year. Just three weeks remain before we’re popping champagne and counting down to 2025. This will be my second quarter century of life. I was just 18 when the last quarter century dropped, though it was also the end of one century and the beginning of another. It’s hard to believe that Y2K was 25 years ago and that 9/11 was nearly 25 years ago. Nobody could have predicted the world we live in today, that’s for sure.

But I digress. Let’s solve this Wordle!

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

Quite lucky today. SPATE is almost always a good opening guess and today it left me with just 8 remaining solutions and three yellow boxes. I chose all new letters for my next guess, CHOIR, and that turned out to be a swell idea. Only one possible solution remained: PATIO for the win!

Competitive Wordle Score

I get 1 point for guessing in three and 0 for tying the Bot. That’ll do.

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “patio” comes from Spanish, where it originally referred to an inner courtyard or open area within a building. Its etymology traces back to the Latin word “pactum,” meaning “agreement” or “contract,” which later evolved in Old Spanish to signify a cleared or open space. Over time, it specifically came to denote a courtyard or garden space, particularly one that is open to the sky.
