It’s been a busy week and yesterday I completely spaced that it was Wordle Wednesday, which means I left out the weekly riddle. My bad! It’s Thor’s Day today, but that doesn’t mean we can’t give Odin his due. Let’s do that riddle today instead!

Wordle Bot Analysis
After each Wordle I solve I head over to the Wordle Bot homepage to see how my guessing game was.
I almost had today’s Wordle in two which would have been nice given how long it’s been since I’ve gotten so lucky, let alone beat the stupid Wordle Bot and its stupid face.
I started with a word very similar to the new Wordle Bot favorite, trace, guessing trape instead. That’s a bit of an antiquated word, and I wasn’t even sure it would work, but somehow it did and I was left with a yellow and green box and 25 remaining possible solutions.
Style cut that down to just three, though I only knew of two possibilities: style and stole. I went with the word that seemed most likely and was wrong. Dead wrong! Alas!
Today’s Score
I get 1 point for guessing in three and 0 for tying the Bot, who also guessed in three, that dirty rat.
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word “stole” in English, referring to a long, often ceremonial scarf, has a rich etymological history. It originates from the Latin word “stola,” which was the traditional garment of Roman women, resembling a long gown. The Latin “stola” itself comes from the Greek word “στολή” (stolē), which means “garment” or “equipment.”
In religious contexts, especially in Christianity, the stole became a liturgical vestment worn by clergy. The use of the stole in this manner likely reflects the garment’s evolution from a symbol of dignity and respect in Roman and Greek societies to a symbol of religious authority and responsibility.
Over time, the term “stole” has also come to refer more broadly to any long, scarf-like garment, often used in fashion or formal wear. This broader use retains the essence of the original meaning, focusing on the garment’s length and elegance.
