On Friday, Steel City Interactive released massive news on the sales of the new boxing game Undisputed. According to the press release, Undisputed has sold a whopping 1 million copies across all platforms.

“We are absolutely blown away by the reception to Undisputed,” said Ash Habib, Founder and CEO of Steel City Interactive. “Our ambition remains to create the new benchmark for combat sports games. Surpassing this milestone shows us that we are well on the way to achieving that. This is a great foundation to build on, and there is much more to come with the Undisputed franchise.”

The fact that Undisputed could sell so well in a month that also saw the release of Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero and Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is a testament to the popularity of boxing, the thirst for a new version of the sport, and the game’s qualities.

Undisputed boasts strong fighter renders, a healthy roster of 81 unique fighters across genders, and a competent career model. That said, Undisputed is far from perfect, and their development studio is well aware of it; that’s why the following line was also included in the press release.

“Following the game’s full release, the studio is now concentrating on an exciting content roadmap and updates.”

While some who have become frustrated with the gameplay issues may be miffed by news of the game’s commercial success, this is excellent news for users who hope to see the game reach its potential. Sponsorship deals with Riyadh Season likely help support the title, but the game’s financial success validates its presence and also helps to provide resources to continue to improve the game.

Undisputed’s early success does one of two things: it either guarantees there will be an Undisputed 2 or that the title has garnered enough attention for EA or another company to approach Steel City about a potential merger.

The rumblings about the return of the Fight Night series have some legs but don’t rule out EA attempting to purchase the publishing rights and adding some support to the continued development of the series.

How does Fight Night Undisputed sound as a boxing title? That title is pure speculation, but the possibilities are real. That’s a concept that would take some time to come to fruition. In the meantime, the December update for Undisputed figures to be a healthy one that attempts to address many of the primary issues with gameplay.

We should also see a content release calendar for the next six months that will hopefully bring more excitement to the release. Unfortunately, those of us who have been playing the game since early access on PC and since launch on console are stuck with a version that isn’t ideal.

The silver lining appears to be that help is on the way.
