Samsung has a habit of giving away freebies to its users. Like the free laptop it is currently bundling with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, or the free tablets and headphones it has gifted in recent deals.
To get those freebies, you need to buy a new phone, but the company’s new subscription offer is available to existing Galaxy handset and tablet users, which is an important freebie if you’re heading back to university.
In June, Samsung and Perplexity teamed up to give away a year’s free subscription to Perplexity AI Pro to Galaxy device users in the U.S, which is worth $200. To get the deal, head to the Samsung Galaxy Store (not the Google Play Store), download the Perplexity AI app and create an account. That’s it, you should now have a full year of the Pro tier of Perplexity AI.
No Samsung Phone? No Problem. You Can Still Get Perplexity Pro For Free
The free subscription is particularly timely as students head back to school (don’t forget Samsung’s other free creative software subscriptions). If you don’t have a Samsung phone, Perplexity is taking advantage of the back-to-school season and spreading its tech through a couple of promotions this September.
Earlier this week, the company announced that it will gift one month of Perplexity’s Comet to students. Comet is the new AI-powered browser that builds AI into the browsing experience, which the company says is geared towards students with a “study mode” and flash cards that are generated from study notes.
To get free access to Comet, the browser has to be downloaded from Perplexity’s site and the student verification has to be completed. After the free month is up, the AI company says that it won’t auto-charge users, instead reverting them to a free account. If students do want to continue using Perplexity Pro, they can access a discounted 75%-off rate at $4.99 per month.
There’s one more route to a free Perplexity Pro subscription. It was announced this week that PayPal and Venmo users will get free early access to Comet, alongside a free subscription to Perplexity Pro. PayPal and Venmo users can access the freebie in the respective apps. The offer is valid until the end of 2025.
Interestingly, PayPal says that this is one of the first free offers in the company’s new subscriptions hub, where subscription payments can be managed. Specifically saying that users can “find incredible deals and bundled offers in the app that add even more benefits, bringing convenience and value together in one place.” Free access to Comet and Perplexity Pro is a strong way to start and maybe an indicator of things to come.
