On Saturday night from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, one of the biggest boxing matches this decade takes place.
The undisputed super middleweight champion, Mexican icon and future Hall-of-Famer, Canelo Alvarez will defend his 168-pound titles against another future Hall-of-Famer, undefeated great and four-division world champion, Terence “Bud” Crawford.
It’s being called Once in a Lifetime, but in this day in age, with megabucks swirling, this could be the first of three insanely high-paying fights for both men.
For now, all eyes in combat sports and abroad will be on Vegas for an undeniably huge fight.
The atmosphere has been building for months, with fans flying in from across the globe and celebrities flooding the strip. It’s the kind of spectacle that dominates sports pages and becomes part of cultural conversation for the weekend.
That level of visibility and interest adds even more weight to what happens on Saturday night.

Weigh-In Notes:
With both Alvarez and Crawford coming in at 167.5 pounds, some may think the perceived size advantage is gone. That’s not necessarily the case. Alvarez is still considered the bigger man as he is more accustomed to competing at the weight class.
Crawford last fought at 154 pounds, and that was his only bout at that weight after reigning at 147 pounds from 2018 to 2023.
Can Crawford Pull the Upset?
Crawford’s position in this fight reminds me of a Notorious B.I.G song. I want say the title, but fans of hip hop know the one I’m talking about.
The line that aligns with Crawford going into this one is: “nothing to lose tattooed around his gun wounds, everything to gain embedded in his brain.”
Despite late money coming in on Crawford, most don’t expect him to win. He’s the smaller man and the B-side on this massive card. But what if he wins? Crawford is already undefeated. His legacy will be intact no matter what happens in this fight. That said, a win over the great Canelo, two divisions above his own, would give him an argument for placement on the Mount Rushmore of the sport.
