Apple’s Head of Chips Could Be Leaving The Company, Report Says

Topline

Apple’s chief of chips is considering leaving the company soon, Bloomberg reported Saturday, potentially adding to a recent wave of departures from the company as it struggles to gain footing among competitors in artificial intelligence.

Key Facts

Johny Srouji, senior vice president of hardware technologies at Apple, is considering leaving the company, according to Bloomberg, citing “people with knowledge of the matter.”

Srouji was in charge of the team responsible for the physical look and feel of Apple’s products.

To deal with the departures, the company has had a shakeup of personnel and company hierarchy, as competitors lure talent away offering millions of dollars in pay packages.

Apple has struggled to keep up with its competitors in the field of artificial intelligence, lagging behind in releasing consumer-attractive AI features or upgrading its flagship Siri voice assistant.

In recent calls with company executives, Apple CEO Tim Cook has stressed a strong focus on the company’s AI strategy–with the company developing its own models and forming partnerships with other companies.

News Peg

Apple has struggled to keep up with competitors in artificial intelligence and releasing new products. In June, Apple released its marquee AI product suite, Apple Intelligence, but has been slow to overhaul its products with generative AI in comparison with other tech giants. Last month, the company announced a $1 billion deal with Google to use its technology in running the new version of the Siri voice assistant, set to be released in June 2026.
