Now that the final DLC set for Super Robot Wars Y is out, I’ve had time to play and finish it. It was a lot more fun than I was expecting.
This DLC coincides with the game’s last free update that celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Super Robot Wars series.
The DLC offered a new end-of-campaign mission set and a different final mission. This also included the addition of the Gundam Calibarn from the end of Gundam: Witch from Mercury (shown above), which tied into the new end-of-campaign mission set.
In addition to new units, there were a bunch of new combination attacks added that featured mecha from similar anime, but not necessarily directly connected.
Such as the Billbine and L-Gaim Mk.2 from Aura Battler Dunbine and Heavy Metal L-Gaim, respectively, and the various Dynamic Planning shows, such as Getter Robo Arc as well as Mazinkaiser. The nice part about these new attacks is that they worked even if only one of the mecha was present on the map.
The Billbine also got a new additional weapon, being the larger aura cannon from the Side L animation for Aura Battler Dunbine from last year, and it is indeed rather powerful.
However, the real fun to be had here was with all the new missions, unlocks, and extended character leveling, with the latter now capped at level 200.
Some of these new missions were also more challenging than the regular campaign. However, I’ve played through the game 7 times now. So I have amassed plenty of upgrade currencies and unique parts to make the various mecha I used excessively powerful.
The new final boss (shown below) was also extremely tanky in terms of health, but my upgraded mecha made short work of her.
As this is the last update for Super Robot Wars Y, I can happily say that I’ve had a lot of fun with the game, and really enjoyed all the new mecha added to the lineup as well as all the additional missions.
Here’s hoping the next mainline Super Robot Wars game, excluding the upcoming remaster, will be announced soon.
