Season 2 of Warzone and Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare III is just around the corner, and it’s a pretty huge content drop including new multiplayer maps, the return of a classic Resurgence map, a brand new Battle Pass featuring The Walking Dead’s Rick Grimes and much, much more. For Call Of Duty junkies like me, it’s Christmas in February, especially since everything that matters is free.
Yes, you have to purchase the Battle Pass if you want all the goodies, and there are Store bundles (including one for TWD’s Michonne!) that cost real money, but all the new maps, modes and weapons are free. You can check out all the new maps right here, and learn about the return of Fortune’s Keep and the new Ranked Resurgence mode here.
Read on to learn about all the new weapons and Aftermarket Parts headed to Modern Warfare III and Warzone in Season 2.
New Weapons
I say “weapons” because not all of these are guns. We’ll start with the new melee weapon first.
Soulrender (Melee — In-Season likely part of a hidden Battle Pass sector)
A ceremonial sword, the Soulrender looks pretty cool. You can even hold down aim to put it into a guard stance. Releasing from this stance initiates a quick slice. It’s the most mobile of the larger melee weapons also.
BP50 Assault Rifle (Battle Pass Sector B7 — Launch)
A highly mobile assault rifle, the BP50 is a modular bullpup chambered in 5.56 with a high rate of fire and “exceptional accuracy.” Basically, if you want an AR that handles like an SMG but is still viable at range, the BP50 is the gun for you.
RAM-9 SMG (Battle Pass Sector B6 — Launch)
The RAM-7 has been a great addition to the game since its release in Season 1. Now we get the gun’s little brother, the RAM-9 SMG. The bullpup chambered in 9mm is designed for very close-range engagements, with best-in-class recoil control and mobility. It can also hold the most rounds and reserves of any SMG in the game. Up close, this thing will be a beast though it may not hold its own at range.
SOA Subverter Battle Rifle (In-Season Weekly Challenge)
I’m a big fan of Battle Rifles in Call Of Duty. They’re generally harder-hitting than Assault Rifles, but usually have some drawbacks like smaller magazine options and slower rate-of-fire. Still, the damage range and accuracy situates them nicely between an AR and Marksman Rifles, filling a void that we didn’t even know existed in earlier Call Of Duty titles. The 7.62 chambered SOA Subverter has a low rate-of-fire, predictable recoil and hits hard and accurately, designed to dominate at mid-to-long ranges with high headshot damage and target flinch. I am a bit worried about what they’re calling its “leisurely ADS” and the ROF, simply because guns like the Sidewinder have traumatized me.
Aftermarket Parts
One of the big additions to Modern Warfare III and this iteration of Warzone is the inclusion of Aftermarket Parts. These are special Gunsmith attachments that completely overhaul how a gun works in the game. You typically unlock these either through Weekly Challenges or the Battle Pass. Sometimes they are new optics or other attachments, and sometimes they’re more revolutionary, like parts that transform a pistol into a fully automatic SMG or give a gun Burst Fire or an underbarrel flamethrower. There are seven new Aftermarket Parts coming in Season 2. We’ll start with the most interesting of the bunch.
JAK Limb Ripper (Weekly Challenge Unlock)
The JAK Limb Ripper adds an underbarrel chainsaw to your guns. Underbarrel attachments can make your loadout pretty damn versatile. I often use an underbarrel drill charge, for instance, because it not only gives you extra lethals, it’s the best counter to riot shields. Adding a chainsaw to your gun—like if Ash from the Evil Dead designed a bayonet—gives you a melee option without expending one loadout slot. It’s pretty perfect for zombies, too. It’s compatible with a number of weapons.
The rest of the Season 2 Afermarket Parts are:
- JAK Burnout (Battle Pass Unlock) — Holger 26 (Light Machine Gun) “Gives the Holger a select fire mode called JAK Burnout that provides a dramatically increased fire rate but can overheat and expand the barrel, introducing spread.”
- JAK Tyrant 762 Kit (Weekly Challenge Unlock) — Longbow (Sniper Rifle) “This caliber Conversion Kit swaps out the receiver and magazine to accommodate 7.62 BLK ammunition for a harder-hitting, subsonic weapon.”
- JAK Backsaw Kit (Weekly Challenge Unlock) — Holger 556 (Assault Rifle) “A Conversion Kit focused on making the Holger 556 more maneuverable. The stock is removed entirely for faster, more agile tactics.”
- JAK Maglift Kit (Weekly Challenge Unlock) — Haymaker (Shotgun) “This weapon modification reinforces the magwell, bolt, and trigger assembly to accommodate the extra-large drum magazine.”
- JAK Outlaw-277 Kit (Weekly Challenge Unlock) — BAS-B (Battle Rifle) “This Conversion Kit transforms the BAS-B into a lever-action rifle, slowing fire rate but vastly improving accuracy for deadlier precision.”
- JAK Glassless Optic (Weekly Challenge Unlock) — “This small, glassless reflex optic offers a crisp and clear sight picture for snappy target acquisition.” (Compatible with a number of weapons).
Pretty interesting stuff here. I’m curious what the BAS-B (one of my favorite guns) will be like as lever-action. I’m not sure the trade for accuracy will make it worth the slower fire-rate, but who knows? A new glassless reflex site sounds pretty great also, as I tend to use the closest-range optics the most.
All of this kicks off next week on Wednesday, February 7th. Read all about the new multiplayer maps here, and the return of Fortune’s Keep and debut of Ranked Resurgence here.
