It lasted a couple of days, but given its short running time and the monster behemoth near it, it was only a matter of time before Tires lost out on its #1 spot on Netflix’s Top 10 list to Bridgerton, the show it previously, briefly unseated.
The fact that Tires got up ahead of Bridgerton at all that close to its launch is amazing, and despite lackluster reviews, it was widely watched and has already been greenlit for a second season. There were only six, 20-23 minute episodes to start with, so the entire first season was more or less like watching a two hour movie. It actually reminds me of those super short first seasons of The Office and Parks and Recreation when they were brand new and still trying to find their footing.
Lord only knows that Netflix would hope that Tires would become a comedy that high profile for them, but that’s getting way, way ahead of things. Netflix is just happy whenever they have very cheap, widely watched hits, which Tires is.
As for Bridgerton well, it’s Bridgerton. I figured season 3 still had some more time on top, even if it is a part of Netflix’s unwelcome policy of splitting all its big seasons in half now. Less watchtime, but Bridgerton is so big in general now that it’s putting up huge hours all the same. I would expect it to stay on top for a bit longer now that tires is falling down.
A surprise addition to the top 3 is Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, which is an animated series set in the world of Jurassic Park made for kids. So, PG, not PG-13. It’s ten episodes and seems to be going over well with dino-loving children, and even avid Jurassic Park fans seem to think that yes, it’s actually adding to the universe lore in a good way. I wonder if it could make it to the top?
Baby Reindeer is still #6 on the list, as the show just refuses to go away after months now, easily one of Netflix’s biggest successes of the whole year as we now approach the halfway point. It’s also amazing given that its watch time is simply not that long, seven total episodes where a bunch of them are 27-34 minutes, and only one is over 40 minutes. That’s just a ton of viewership.
We’ll see how long Bridgerton has to keep its crown this time, but I am keeping my eye on those Jurassic dinos, to be sure.
