Cyberpunk 2077’s Second, Cancelled DLC Would Have Been On The Moon, Leak Suggests

Cyberpunk 2077’s Second, Cancelled DLC Would Have Been On The Moon, Leak Suggests

There was an alleged original plan for Cyberpunk 2077. Blockbuster releases, two significant expansions, Witcher 3-style, and then capping it all off with some sort of multiplayer component. At least that’s what it seemed like would happen.

Instead, we had a wild saga of 2+ years fixing the game and adding features, capping things off with the Phantom Liberty DLC which helped make the game overall an all-timer. But those delays and the necessity for CDPR to move on meant that the second expansion was scrapped, as were whatever multiplayer ambitions they could have had.

But now, new files have emerged that suggest a second major DLC for the game would have taken place far from Night City. On the moon, actually.

Concept art, blueprints, files and some map data have leaked for the concept, suggesting that’s likely where things would have gone next, if things went to plan. Though with Cyberpunk 2 on the way years from now, it stands to reason that perhaps some of those ideas could be inserted into that game instead.

The moon has significant lore in Cyberpunk, even if we’re stuck in Night City and its outskirts for the game itself. In the world of Cyberpunk, the moon was colonized in 1997 and was mass mined for resources by a number of companies including Tycho. Araska and Militech now have mining operations and corporate interests on Luna as well now. It’s possible this expansion could have tied into the orbiting megastructure, the Crystal Palace, which featured heavily in one of the base game’s endings.

The moon also played a dramatic role in the Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime, as you may recall. Want to cry again? Well, here you go, as a reminder:

Again, this is not happening for Cyberpunk 2077. These are just ghosts of files and content for the concept. I would not rule out the moon featuring in a future game, as I do wonder how you sort of just…do Night City again, as you may need some additional locations, but there are no guarantees.

I of course would have loved to play this if the expansion was anywhere close to the quality level we got with Phantom Liberty, but things just didn’t pan out that way. As for the cancelled multiplayer part, I fully believe that CP2077-2 will have some aspect of that as more and more people chase GTA Online. But that’s a story for another day.
