The Bikeriders first released in theaters this June and came to video-on-demand a few weeks ago. Now, the period crime drama about a motorcycle gang in the 1960s is available to stream for free at home.
The movie stars Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer, Michael Shannon, Norman Reedus, Mike Faist, Boyd Holbrook and more and follows the story of the fictional Vandals gang, based on the Outlaws Motorcycle Club. The film was inspired by a photo-book of the same name by photographer Danny Lyon (also a character in the picture).
The movie was the opening film of the 50th Telluride Film Festival in 2023, and was originally slated for a December 2023 wide release. That was pushed back due to the writer’s strike, which prevented cast members from promoting the film.
The Bikeriders has a respectable 80% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes (75% with audiences). The general consensus among critics is that it’s a solid, well-crafted period piece with great performances that may be a bit on the uneventful side. A solid character study where not quite enough happens to keep things interesting, but still worth a watch.
I missed this one in theaters, which is why I’m so thrilled that it lands on Peacock today. Yes, that may not be your streaming service of choice—someday, I’m sure it will zoom over to Netflix—but it’s better than dropping $20 on VOD.
The film was written and directed by Jeff Nichols whose other movies include Take Shelter, Mud and Midnight Special.
