What To Watch This Weekend: New Streaming TV Shows And Movies On Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Apple TV And More

It’s a huge weekend for new releases and I’ve been absolutely swamped which is why I managed to not get this guide out yesterday like I normally do. My apologies.

From horror series filled with witches and demonic terrors, to mobster series and much more, this weekend is packed with streaming options.

Check out last weekend’s streaming guide right here:

Alright, let’s dive right in!

New Shows and Movies

Agatha All Along (Disney+)

We’ll kick off this weekend’s list with Disney and Marvel’s new series Agatha All Along. The first two episodes dropped on Disney Plus this past Wednesday and the rest will release weekly. It’s a sequel to WandaVision from the same showrunner and creator Jac Schaeffer and so far it’s off to a great start. The series follows Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) in her quest to regain her powers after Wanda stole them from her. I am enjoying it—and as I say in my review, I’m cautiously optimistic.

The Penguin (HBO / Max)

Colin Farrell is as delightful as he is unrecognizable in the limited HBO series The Penguin which is streaming on Max every Sunday. The first episode actually came out this past Thursday, however. Episode 2 doesn’t come out until next weekend. This is more of a mobster show than a Batman show, and man am I enjoying it so far. You can read my review here.

FROM Season 3 (MGM+)

This is not only my most-anticipated show of the weekend, it’s one of the ones I’ve been looking for most all year long. Season 2 ended on such a crazy cliffhanger, I’m on the edge of my seat for Season 3’s premiere, which drops this Sunday. I will be reviewing each episode weekly, so be sure to follow me on this blog and social media. This is a pretty uneven series at times, but when it’s good it really hooks you, line and sinker.

Ongoing TV Shows

There are so many shows streaming at the moment, it’s hard to keep up with them all. I’m behind on Slow Horses and Bad Monkey. I’m even behind on Only Murders in the Building. I haven’t even started a couple that I want to get into and I’m sure there are others I’ve simply missed entirely. In any case, here are some of the shows currently airing that I’m watching and/or reviewing and/or think you might enjoy.

LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy (Disney+)

Somehow, I think this might be the Star Wars show we’ve all been waiting for—after so many Disney live-action disappointments. In just this trailer alone we get a jaded Luke Skywalker who sums up his movie character arc in the most hilariously on-point way, Darth Jar Jar Binks and so much more. Plus a fantastic voice cast that includes Mark Hamill. The first episode of the four-part “special event” lands on Friday. I can’t wait!

The Old Man Season 2 (Hulu)

I am suddenly reminded that I never finished Season 1 of Hulu’s Jeff Bridges-led spy thriller The Old Man. The FX-produced series stars Bridges and John Lithgow and deals with twin timelines, terrorism, assassins and lots of other compelling dramatic goodness. I got sidetracked and forgot about it and I think I’m going to have to binge the rest of Season 1 so I can watch Season 2 which lands this evening. I definitely recommend you give this a shot.

Tulsa King Season 2 Premiere (Paramount+)

Taylor Sheridan’s mob series stars Sylvester Stallone as Dwight “The General” Manfredi, an exiled mafia lieutenant sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma to extend the organized crime business to the boondocks. Once there, he forms his own crew and finds himself surrounded on all sides. The Season 2 premiere debuts this Sunday.

Slow Horses Season 4 (Apple TV+)

The best—and often funniest—spy show on TV returns this week, with the Season 4 premiere dropping this past Wednesday (here’s my review). Gary Oldman returns as the mephitic Jackson Lamb, one of the greatest British spies ever concocted—though somewhat less suave than James Bond and a tiny bit less decorous than George Smiley. He’s in charge of Slough House, a purgatorial waypoint for MI5 “rejects” comprised of the rest of our heroes including the bright, young River Cartwright (Jack Lowden). His boss, Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas) remains in the #2 spot at MI5 with First Desk now occupied by the bumbling Claude Whelan—played by Battlestar Galactica alum, James Callis. The first two episodes have been great—so good it’s hard to wait for the next episode to drop!

Only Murders In The Building Season 4 (Hulu)

The gang is back in one of the grimmest—but still hilarious—mysteries the Arconia has faced yet. Charles Haden-Savage (Steve Martin), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) return as our podcasting sleuths, only this time around the murder hits a lot closer to home for Charles. The fourth season has even more celebrity cameos than ever before—I’m waiting to see how this plays out—as Hollywood has its sights on making a movie based on the podcast. So far, I’ve really enjoyed the first three episodes of the season, which has lots of suspects and clues but no solid contenders for the whodunnit just yet. You can read my review here.

Bad Monkey (Apple TV)

I love this show. Vince Vaughn is at his very best. Natalie Martinez makes me swoon. Tom Nowicki should narrate everything. And the rest of the cast—Zach Braff, Rob Delaney, Meredith Hagner, Michelle Monaghan, John Ortiz, Ronald Peet—knock it out of the park. This is one of the best-cast shows I’ve seen in recent memory. It’s also hilarious, has a great twisty mystery, and every time an episode ends I groan because I know I have to wait another week. Still, it’s nice to look forward to each new episode.

The Rings Of Power (Prime Video)

Not so much Lord of the Rings as it is expensive fan-fiction bankrolled by Jeff Bezos, The Rings Of Power is still one of my favorite shows to write about and make videos about—because it’s just so bad! If you like it, that’s great. We don’t have enough fantasy shows out there, after all. It’s just not my cup of tea. You can read my latest review of Episode 6 right here. It had some of my favorite scenes of the entire series, but also plenty of frustrations.
