Riot Games has announced that they have got the returning Linkin Park to create the anthem for the upcoming League of Legends world championship, with the track, known as Heavy Is The Crown, set to launch tomorrow.
Every year the anthem for the League of Legends world championship comes from a major artist, but Linkin Park might just be the biggest yet, with the band only just returning from hiatus a matter of weeks ago. After releasing a new single called The Emptiness Machine on their return, which became an instant hit, the next song from the new-look line-up is Heavy Is The Crown, the new Worlds anthem. The track is set to debut on Tuesday, September 24, at 8am PT.
“It’s been an amazing experience partnering with Riot to bring this anthem to the global League of Legends community,” said Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park. “The song is a real highlight of this new era for us, harnessing our signature sound and infusing it with fresh energy. We’re so excited for players and fans to experience this!”
Just a few days after the final of the League of Legends world championship, Linkin Park is set to release a brand-new album called From Zero. The album features new vocalist Emily Armstrong, who has joined the band following the tragic passing of founding member Chester Bennington.
“The Worlds anthem is the music moment that League players look forward to the most each year, and it has become a highly coveted fixture in music across the world,” added Maria Egan, Global Head of Music at Riot Games. “As the band embarks on this exciting new chapter, we’re honored to partner with them for the 2024 anthem. The lyrics for ‘Heavy Is The Crown’ perfectly capture the narrative for this year’s Worlds and they are a powerful companion to the themes of our music video.”
As with every Worlds anthem, you can expect to hear Heavy Is The Crown a lot throughout the tournament, which is due to kick off later this week with the play in stage.
Eight teams will kick off Worlds in the play in stage, vying for a spot in the main group stage, which already has 12 teams locked into it. From there, the top eight teams will make it to the knockout stage, where they will eventually be whittled down to just two remaining teams. Those two will fight for the title of world champions at the O2 Arena in London in early November.
