It wouldn’t be a season of Fortnite without some sort of leak, though now that it’s out in the wild, Epic has decided to just officially release a look at Fortnite Chapter 6 and upcoming battle pass skins. The official art is above, and more is likely to come in short order. The season is called “Hunters” and more should be rolling out soon here.
You can understand the vibe here, which appears to mainly be “Ninja,” and really past that, a specifically Japanese themed season. The promotional materials contain Japanese text, Godzilla is apparently in this season and so is Baymax from Big Hero 6, which takes place in the Japanese-infused city of “San Fransokyo.” You get the idea.
Despite a couple of crossovers, this does seem to be a largely original roster of battle pass skins. I’m counting what appear to be at least five original skins, and I find myself wondering if Godzilla is going to be an event monster (he almost certainly will) but also a shrunken skin the way we’ve seen with other big beings or monsters in the past. I’m not sure his tiny arms could hold a gun, however.
There is also reportedly a Demon Slayer crossover coming later this season which, you guessed it, is a Japanese show, continuing this focus deeper into the season. That is supposedly going to be pretty large with Demons on the map, Demon Hunter skins, and an actual Demon island.
Fortnite is indeed popular in Japan, and I’m wondering if this is reaching out to the Asian market or mainly just because…they thought it would be a cool theme. Probably both. The aesthetic does look very cool and I think Epic is at its best when it’s designing original skins rather than relying too heavily on crossovers. These days they do save most of those for the store, I suppose.
We will see all this in action on Sunday when Fortnite Chapter 6 launches. It looks to be an interesting seasons, moving on from the “Remix” and into some new territory entirely. I’m excited to see what else is in store on the map specifically.
