LG TVs Become Even More Works Of Art

LG TVs Become Even More Works Of Art

While the demand for ever bigger TVs is mostly a very good thing so far as I’m concerned, the one downside is the way those cinematic screens turn into massive black holes in your room decor when they’re turned off. Happily, LG has decided to do something about this by equipping its TVs with a a virtual art gallery feature that can portray works of art or cool photographs on their screens when you’re not watching them in earnest – a feature that has just been bolstered on LG TVs to the tune of more than 15,000 new artworks to choose from.

This huge new collection of digital art and images arrives on LG OLED and LCD TVs courtesy of a new deal with pioneering digital art and AI platform Artlume. LG is the first brand to build Artlume support into its TVs, providing the more than 200 million owners of LG TVs running webOS 6.0 (from 2020) or newer with a vast collection of art that includes everything from classic masterpieces to contemporary photography, AI art, and works from renowned institutions such as the Ashmolean Museum.

That adds up to an awful lot of artworks to pick your way through as you try to find your favourites for turning your living room in a virtual gallery, of course. LG makes it possible, though, to browse through the Artlume collection using an app on your smartphone, making it easier to quickly add favourite art to different personalised playlists you can set up to cover any themes, genres or moods you feel like filling your room with when you’re not watching TV.

The Artlume app on LG’s TVs is user-friendly enough to allow art fans to instantly make changes to the displayed artwork, while the AI part of its feature set enables LG TV owners to generate unique artworks via simple word prompts.

The Artlume collection isn’t LG’s first rodeo when it comes to turning its TVs into works of digital art. The brand has actually been offering a Gallery Mode with a selection of varied artworks to choose from on its TVs since 2018. Adding Artlume’s huge digital artwork collection, though, represents a truly massive expansion of the range of art and photographs LG TV owners can choose from.

“LG is the perfect partner for us, aligned with our goal to bring love, beauty and passion to people’s lives through the universal language of art,” says founder and CEO of Artlume, Patrick Ashworth. “We are committed to leaving a profound positive impact on humanity by educating future generations, supporting mental health through the beauty of art, and sharing museum art with the world.”

Meanwhile LG’s senior vice president of platform business at LG Media Entertainment Solution Company, Chris Jo, had this to say of the partnership with Artlume: “LG is dedicated to transforming how people experience art. Through this partnership with Artlume, we are bringing a wide array of incredible art to LG smart TVs, enriching living spaces.”

Obviously the main attraction of LG’s OLED TVs at least, remains their consistently phenomenal picture quality. Being able to apply that outstanding picture performance to the rendering of so many of the world’s most beloved artworks, though, is actually an experience that once enjoyed is hard to be without again.
