Overwolf, a platform for user-generated content (UGC) in gaming, has revealed it paid $240 million to in-game creators in 2024, representing a 19% increase on the $201 million it passed out to its community in 2023.
The company credited its year-on-year success to its creators, including mod developers, in-game app designers, and website private server operators for major titles such as Valorant, League of Legends, Fortnite, Dota 2, World of Warcraft, Rainbow Six Siege, and Minecraft.
Overwolf, which acquired ad tech company NitroPay for an eight-figure sum in May–and doubled its audience to over 100 million unique monthly players in the process–now supports 1,500 games and 178,000 creatives, with popular apps including Porofessor, Facecheck, R6Tracker, TFTactics, Buff, and Outplayed.
Major successes include Arco “Tex” Dielhof’s enhanced UI apps for Diablo IV and Baldur’s Gate 3, and Matt Hawkins’ Tracker Network, which has secured 10 million registered users between his stats website and in-game apps.
Private servers monetize their platforms through in-game stores. The Grand Theft Auto V server DrillUK, which combines roleplaying elements and casual gameplay, grew its user base to over 24,000 members under Tebex, which Overwolf acquired in 2022. Gaming-focused websites like Maxroll.gg continue to provide tools, guides, and resources for games like Diablo IV and Path of Exile 2, while Valorant.gg serves esports communities, with millions of monthly users.
Premium mods, in particular, represent one of the biggest growth areas for Overwolf, with 46 of these generating over $3 million in revenue. These are priced between $2 and $10, and mod authors take home at least 50% of the revenue generated. In-app ads, which go through compliance checks to avoid disrupting gameplay, offer creators 70% of ad revenue, with Overwolf retaining 30%.
Through CurseForge, which offers over 500,000 game mods from 134,000 authors, Overwolf is connecting with specialist gaming groups such as those playing ARK: Survival Ascended, in which the ARK Primal Nemesis mod, bought over 45,000 times, has introduced over 1,000 custom dinosaurs to the title.
In June 2024, the Power Rangers franchise debuted in ARK: Survival Ascended with the ARK x Power Rangers Premium Mod, developed by UGC game studio and publisher Look North World, grossing over $350,000.
Overwolf CEO Uri Marchand said: “Our single north star is creator payouts–how much we’ve helped creators earn. We’re proud to have paid over $240 million to creators in 2024 alone. We’re excited to see more major studios and IPs embracing UGC in 2025 and beyond, unlocking opportunities for creators and gamers alike.”
