I had a stellar March when it came to my Wordle performance vs the Wordle Bot, but April continues to be a lot trickier. I only had 106 words remaining after SLATE, but with just one yellow box I still didn’t have the best idea of where to go. I tried all new letters with CHOIR and slashed that number to 5. From here, I realized I might have a lot of ‘LL’ words and I hoped to limit these with DIRTY and then GRIFT, which cut out words like DRILL, GRILL and FRILL and GIRLY.
These were probably not great choices, but I was hoping I’d narrow it down faster. GRIFT, at least, left me with just one option: KRILL for the win!
Competitive Wordle Score
I get -1 point for guessing in five and -1 point for losing to the Bot. Double that for 2XP Friday is -4. Ouch. The Bot gets 0 for guessing in four and 1 point for beating me, for a total of 2 points after the 2XP bonus. This brings our April totals to:
Erik: -5 points
Wordle Bot: 4 points
How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
- If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
- Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
- You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word “krill” comes from the Norwegian word krill, meaning “small fry of fish” or “young fish.” It was later adopted in English to refer specifically to the small, shrimp-like marine crustaceans that whales and other sea animals feed on. The term likely has older Germanic roots related to small or insignificant things.
