Well I keep bouncing back between good and bad days and I suppose this was a bad one, though not terribly bad. CREAM was bad, leaving me with 423 words and not a single yellow or green box. I guess cream with your coffee but not with your Wordle. SHOUT slashed that number down to just five, ironically enough, and had I known that at the time maybe I would have guessed FIFTH instead of FILTH. I hate to guess double letters, however, though I wish I had today. Still, it at least I got FIFTH on my fourth guess and not my FIFTH . . . .

I get 0 points for guessing in four and -1 for losing to the Bot. That’s -2 with 2XP Friday. The Bot gets 1 point for guessing in three and another for beating me. That’s 4 with 2XP Friday. Our scores narrow considerably to:

How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
- If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
- Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
- You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word “fifth” comes from Old English fīfta, meaning “fifth,” which is derived from fīf (“five”) + the ordinal suffix -ta. It replaced an earlier form fifthe influenced by Middle English sound changes. The root fīf comes from Proto-Germanic fimf, from Proto-Indo-European pénkʷe (“five”).
