A giant blue ice block has appeared at the center of Fortnite’s Chapter 6, Season 1 map. It marks the beginning of the game’s holiday event, though the actual Winterfest festivities won’t begin until Thursday.
The block arrives along with a bunch of powdery snow and some festive decorations like candy canes and lights. But the question on everybody’s mind is the same one Brad Pitt once asked Kevin Spacey and Morgan Freeman: “What’s in the box?”
Thankfully, it’s not a human head. Or, rather, it’s not just a human head. The head that inside the ice block is very much attached to the body it comes with. Both body and head belong to famous pop-star, Mariah Carey, who is making her Fortnite debut in style.
Well, maybe not so much in style as on ice. When Carey thaws, she’ll be an NPC that players can interact with. You can find the singer thawing out between Brutal Boxcarts, Foxy Floodgate, and Seaport City, right in the center of the map. Frankly, it’s hard to miss when flying in from the Battle Bus.
It’s unclear when the ice imprisoning Carey will freeze or what exactly she’ll do once she’s out, but it seems likely that it will happen either at the start of Winterfest 2024 or at least before Christmas. Carey will also be a new skin in the Item Shop at some point during the event along with her “All I Want For Christmas” emote.
