Agatha All Along viewers thought they were clever when they went against the common notion that “Teen” in the show, where his identity is purposefully masked, would turn out to be Billy Maximoff, Wanda’s magic-wielding son who would go on to become Wiccan in the comics.
The idea was that Teen was actually going to turn out to be Nicholas Scratch in the end, Agatha’s son from the comics who she sacrificed to get the Darkhold, who would later go on to command the Salem Seven.
Well uh, Agatha All Along saw your theories coming.
In last night’s episode, the show took that concept on directly, with Teen being relayed the story of how Agatha traded her son for the evil book, with the sly nod that no one knows what happened to the kid from there. “She may not even recognize him if he showed up on her doorstep.”
So, obviously the implication here is that Teen is her son, and perhaps he does know that which is why he arrived and is trying to ingratiate himself with her. But…because he wants to know her? Or wants revenge? Agatha too may feel like something is amiss as she notably prevented Teen from drinking the poison in the test, expressing a rare concern for others.
But…is any of that true? It would be pretty unusual for a lie-based show like Agatha All Along to correctly reveal the identity of its mystery character in its third episode out of nine. So maybe the theory circles back around to Teen maybe being Billy Maximoff, as it seems almost certain he has to be one or the other. He’s a witch, he’s the right age, he’s gay, this is a literal spin-off of WandaVision and a major component may end up being raising Wanda back to life, as we know she will continue to have a role in the MCU. It seemed likely that if that was Billy, the big reveal at the end would be that he doesn’t want power, he wants his mother alive again. And there you go.
But Agatha All Along is messing with all of our heads with hints and counter-hints this early. I think they understood from the start what people would theorize and be determined to throw a wrench into everyone’s guesses early on. I have to admit I am thoroughly confused, so good job.
