Indianapolis is the most-booked destination across all of North America on Airbnb for April 8’s total solar eclipse, according to the online homestay marketplace. However, over 45% of listings on the platform are still available to book in “Circle City,” and 40% are available across the path of totality in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
It also unmasked New Yorkers as the most likely to book an Airbnb in the path of totality.
Surge In Interest
It comes amid a surge in interest around the longest total solar eclipse to strike the U.S. since 1806—and the last one across the nation until 2045. New Airbnb data, published in a press release today, reveals a 1,000% increase in searches for stays between April 5 and 8 along the 115-mile wide path of totality—the only place where it will be possible to experience a total solar eclipse.
Airbnb also reported that 40% of accommodations within the path of totality remain available for booking.
New Hosts
Airbnb revealed that it’s recruited more than a thousand new hosts to meet demand and that more than 10 percent of guests along the path of totality chose to book with Airbnb for the first time.
During totality, it will get dark and cool as the moon’s shadow sweeps over you, completely blocking the sun and allowing observers to remove their solar eclipse glasses for a naked-eye glimpse of the sun’s majestic white corona. Outside of the path of totality, only the partial phases will be visible through eclipse glasses.
Origin Cites

After Indianapolis, the most booked destinations in the U.S. for the total solar eclipse weekend are Austin (along with the adjacent Hill Country region in Texas), closely followed by Cleveland, Dallas and Montreal.
