The reduced prices are in the U.K. Amazon store, listed as limited-time deals. The very latest addition to the extensive Kindle range, is the Kindle Colorsoft. As the name suggests, it has a color display.
While the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition was released last fall at a special event in New York City, a newer version with lower storage capacity has just been unveiled.
This new model has 16GB of storage, still enough for dozens or hundreds of titles, though picture-heavy books such as cookery books or graphic novels take up a little more space. These are where the colorful screen looks its best, and 16GB storage is still plenty.
Another kind of book that looks good in color, and is vacation-adjacent, is the travel guide.
The first Kindle Colorsoft was criticized for being too expensive, and the new model addresses that with a significantly lower price, £239.99 ($325). The current deal drops that by 23%. That means there’s a full £55 ($74) off, cutting the price to £184.99 ($250).
If your vacation is outdoors-based, ebook readers from companies such as Boox, Kobo and Kindle are particularly suitable. Unlike a tablet, there are no distractions from incoming notifications, for instance. The screen is easy to read in even the brightest sunlight, through sunglasses. And in darker environments, the frontlight is easier on the eyes than a traditional tablet’s backlight which shines right at you.
